One of the important things where you should pay a lot attention is, at the URL of the page you want to optimize. It should be informative and meaningful, very well-populated with keywords and preferably with ".html" extension.

Craft catch Page titles for all pages:
Most of the times you can notice that Joomla websites with default title that say "Home" as this is the title of the home page. Mostly beginners don't understand that and the way they change title also a little bit obscure at first. As you know that page title is one of the main on-site criteria considered by search engines when ranking web pages. You should always give your pages meaningful title with your main keyword should be included in it.

Use URL that is friendly to Google:
To create your Joomla website's URL search engine friendly, you have few very good options. The first one is to use the default Joomla's SEF plug-in. You should remember that by default this plugin is not activated, here you need to go to your global configuration page and activate that.

404 error page pages:
You may have seen a Joomla website with the default 404 error pages with small information about the error and a link to home page. It is advisable that you should setup a 404 page, either using some sort of plug-in or setup it manually and include valuable resources on this page to direct the user somewhere back to your website. Or you should include search form that can be used by the user to get back on track.

H1 Tags in Joomla:
It's very good idea to make use of H1 tags as your article title decorator. It has little significance to wards convincing search engine that the page is actually about the keyword you have been mentioning starting from the page title. Yes we all know pages that do well without H1 tags, but who cares if you get a help on your SEO task for little or no work. You should just go ahead and use H1 tags for your articles' Title.

Setup Meta data for every page:
Nowadays Meta data may not have much value in the eyes of search engines as used to have few years back but still you should do proper optimization work on them. While optimizing Meta data of a webpage. Your focus should be more on the description rather than keywords. You should write proper descriptions about your page, preferably using 160 to 170 characters long.
